Nov. 27, south lake

Took a quad trip to the landing today.  We stopped at the narrows, south side to check the ice and found only 5-5 1/2 inches 50 feet from shore.  Carried on overland to the landing and found, again, only 5 to 5 1/2 inches at about 200 feet out.  While there, a couple of campers came walking back on the ice, following the shore line and they reported "cracking" as they walked past that swampy bay on the east side of the big island.  Needless to say, they didn't stick around that area to dig a hole, or create a hole spontaneously, to check thickness.  Please note,  the south lake was reported frozen over on November 11th.  At the landing, on Nov. 6th we broke through 1 inch thick  shore ice by boat for the last town trip.  The take away is; the ice is extremely slow to form this year………..None of us out here are on the ice.
