MCA President’s Message 2014

March, 2014

Dear Fellow Campers,

Well folks, what a winter we have had! Many of us have been wishing for more snow the last couple of years. Be careful of what you wish for! I am finally getting around to filling you in on the many changes we have had at Malachi in the last few months.

Early in October the Board met to discuss a few issues that needed to be dealt with. If you don’t already know, it was at this meeting that three of our members resigned. Gerry Hunter resigned as the President, John Mahoney resigned as director of the Road, and Denise Terpstra resigned as director for the Environment. It was at that time, with Board approval, I assumed the duties of the president. We all want to thank these individuals for all their time and effort over the years. We all must remember that these people volunteered their time for many years, often doing difficult and thankless jobs. Thank you so much for your time!

Many of you are aware of the changes that the MNR has put in place regarding the boat cache. Gerry and I met with the Kevin Keith in early October in Kenora. The MNR has requested that the MCA take over the administration of the boat cache. In a nutshell, this means we will be responsible for maintaining the shoreline as well as keeping track of the individuals for each boat cache. How the MCA accomplishes this, has been left up to us. The Board will come up with a policy, and all members will be notified at that time.

The MCA also received a letter of concern in October from several campers. The letter questioned the way we handled the trailer parking issue. As you know this was a contentious issue last year and there were far too many discussions on this topic. This issue was resolved quite easily at our October meeting with the MNR. We have secured an additional spot for trailer parking just north of the Heli pad area. This area will be a user pay area. The cost should be minimal, and will be divided amongst all users. We are STILL waiting for written confirmation, but I am confident this will happen.

We are in the process of making some changes at the Board level. We would like to make changes to some of our processes, and create process where we did not have any previously. Brent Sanderson, along with other directors, has taken on the huge task of updating our constitution and bylaws. We are hoping some of these changes will make our life as an elected body a little easier. As an elected body, we are accountable to the whole membership. We hope to do a better job of communication in the future.

We hope that the summer will be long and warm for all of us to complete our many jobs. The date of the AGM is confirmed for Tuesday, May 6, 2014. We will do our best to notify all campers of any upcoming changes. I want to thank all volunteers, Directors and Board members throughout this year, and hope they continue to help keep Malachi the great place it is.

Clay Ingram (Interim President)

PS: the President’s Message along with the AGM agenda and annual invoice were emailed out to all members. If you did not receive that email please contact us and we will update our email database.
