Malachi C.A.M.P. (Campers’ Association Meeting Place)

The train station has been an historic gathering place for Malachi Campers for over 100 years. Our community building hosts candy and lake-friendly product sales on summer Saturdays, 12p-2p (a great way for kids to volunteer!). It houses a free book and game lending library, is a shelter for train-travelers, and is available for use to members in good standing for a nominal donation. Contact any director for access.

The building and grounds operate independently of membership dues. Various fundraisers are held throughout the year, such as the Alex Reid Memorial Cribbage Tournament in August, and the Floating Poker Derby, accompanied by Cobs & Dawgs, on the September long weekend. Other activities are posted at the landing. All funds help pay for the land lease, insurance, maintenance, and any upgrades.

The Annual Picnic is another major, family-friendly event organized by many volunteers, and is totally self-supporting. It starts with a pancake breakfast, and runs until late afternoon with children’s games, horseshoe and volleyball tourneys, swimming races, a barbecue, candy sale, and silent auction. Handcrafted items and donations for the auction are gratefully accepted. It ends with a spectacular firework display from Memorial Island, organized by accredited member volunteers.

Extra volunteers are always needed to set up, run, and clean-up after the picnic, too!
