Dec. 7

Between today and yesterday we have been out with the drill.  Walking down the west side, we found 5-5 1/2 inches close to shore, usually 4 inches of clear blue capped with frozen slush ice then ranging out, any clear blue ice was 4 inches rarely 4 1/2 inches.  Across the top of Indian bay, 5 1/2 inches was found.  At diving rock we have 5 inches passing the docks and about 50 feet S we were back to 4 inches.  Once again a different year, there doesn't seem to be consistent ice in any area.  Also noted are cracks with differences in the surface level in some areas.  When/if the temperature decides to drop substantially, we could get pressure ridges forming.  Forecast temps this week are spring like so I don't hold much hope for safe travel for the upcoming weekend.
