The ice thickness was checked north of the narrows about a quarter mile out on what would be the normal route. 8 inches of snow then a layer of water then ONLY 2 INCHES OF ICE. There are campers who have put tracks on the North lake, speed and luck. They didn’t know apparently. The trails left are full of water. This thin ice and a layer of snow have given us immense amounts of slush. The reflective pylons are being used to block the access onto the North lake. Al and I took the West trail to the landing today, rough but passable. Thanks to Alexanders for breaking that trail. We then came back via the trail evil Clay has made overland to Copelands and broke the South Otter lake trail to Otter then came back via the north Trail to Malachi. The north trail had already been opened by Steven and Taylor. If anyone knows of anyone coming out, who may not know about the dangerous conditions, please let them know. Lets start the New Year safely.
Thanks to Malachi residents for great job of updating us on lake conditions etc, Sylvia and Dave Rothney
