and is recovering The entire Malachi community wishes him a speedy
Events that day unfolded quickly. Many cottagers came to assist with at
least four fire pumps dousing the flames with three or four more at the
ready. An MNRF helicopter with fire crew on board landed at Stephenson
Field in North Lake. Thanks again go out to the Stephensons and their
helpers for building the landing site.
The professional crew observed the volunteer fire fighters and were
impressed with the response. They stayed overnight at firefighter(retired)
Shawn Poole’s, and checked for hot spots and inspected the site the next
Here are some important observations from the fire crew , Shawn, Perry and
-Impressive community response.
-Lots of fire pumps were available.
-We were lucky there was very little wind and conditions weren’t tinder dry.
-The fire crew were very impressed with Stephenson Field and the local
-Local retired paramedics Clay and Kim Reichert quickly attended and helped
The Not So Good:
-There were some people on the water tubing in the vicinity. *If water
bombers were called in, they would have to abort picking up water if ANY
watercraft is in the way*
-Totally unconfirmed, but a fire crew member thought they saw a drone.
-A couple of pumps did not start. Thankfully there were many on hand that
did and many observant cottagers.
A reminder to all cottagers: Buy and maintain a good quality fire pump.
Perry Stephenson also shared that we should not assume that he or Shawn are
down to transport crews to a fire site. If a helicopter is dispatched,
someone must go to Stephenson Field to pick up fire crews.
