April 3rd. Road

We did the absolute “last trip” to town today.  Leaving and on the road
by 0830, after – temps over night, the road was “solid”  although with
the ruts, and ice patches where the sun hasn’t been able to have its way
are still there.  Returning home, with + temps, the road was soft and
the truck “danced” a bit.  As Al described in his previous posts, we
usually don’t experience these conditions, but this has been a weird
winter.  On the lake, today, and I stress today, there is still some
snow, but looking at the forecast, I doubt any snow cover on the lake
will last very long.  We used the quad.  The narrows crossing coming
home was mud.  There is mud tracked onto the ice at the narrows on both
the S and N sides.  Sun and warm temps are going to have their way with
the ice in these areas.  My plan is to have a look at the narrows as we
approach the weekend.  And so the melt starts.  Personal note, we have
had a major loss with Al’s passing, I will do my best to fill his shoes.
